Reviews
DigitalCameraReview: “Live view, advanced flash control, face detection, and the mother lode of in-camera processing options all reside under one roof. Reading the specs, you might assume this would be an uncomfortable arrangement, but the E-520 surprises again and again with just how well all of these seemingly misshapen parts fit together.”
ePHOTOzine: “Image proceesing is superb, noise minimal, sharpness is good, exposures are 100% and the IS system is a lifesaver. Overall a very impressive piece of kit worthy of its price.”
CameraLabs: “So while it’s disappointing Olympus hasn’t made any major changes, like boosting the resolution, improving the AF system, enlarging the viewfinder, or fitting a flip-out screen, it’s testament to the earlier E-510’s specs that by making a few small enhancements, the E-520 remains a serious contender.”
LetsGoDigital: “The image quality of the Olympus E-520 is solid as a rock, leaving no other option than to go to the closest dealer and make your acquaintance with this camera. How that will work out, is up to you, we have been convinced already! A recommendable camera! ”
PhotographyBlog: “The viewfinder – an important part of any SLR – is just as small as the one built into the E-510. I am pretty sure Olympus could have upped its magnification by sacrificing some brightness, but they have chosen not to. Similarly, they could have put a more versatile auto-focus system into the camera – the current system is fine as regards its speed and reliability, but it could use a couple more AF sensors, preferably of the cross type.”
DigitalCameraInfo: “There’s one of the best Live View modes on the market (with auto focus), a good image stabilization system that’s built into the body, comprehensive presets and a high degree of customizability and control. However, the test results for noise levels, white balance and dynamic range were so poor that they dragged down an otherwise good camera.”
Biofos: “If you want a highly sophisticated and competent machine that represents cracking value for money you cannot go wrong with the E-520. That it is available in a one and two lens kit form simply adds to its innate value as the kit lenses are excellent too.”
